The Beginning

Hi all, thanks for coming. Welcome to my blog. First post.

The intent of this blog is not so unique. I want a medium to practice communicating ideas. I need practice communicating ideas in a form other than office email/posting style. The careful exposition of an idea can be at odds with getting the point across. Writers like Matt Levine, the Bloomberg columnist, are impressive because they can deliver complex ideas in accessible yet punchy and entertaining manner. I’m looking to practice emulating that style and with practice, develop my own.

Allow me to add the caveat that I think my in-person communication is perfectly fine, if slightly verbose and pretentious. I don’t believe that style translates well into writing. Reading someone else’s writing takes a lot of work and I want to be cognizant of my audience’s captured attention. Write too self indulgently and no one can be bothered to slog through your junk.

So that’s my intent. The writing here should be concise and punchy. I want to polish the presentation of ideas here, not rattle off stream of consciousness. That luxury is reserved for anyone who has the misfortune of reading my journal.

And why a blog? As even a second-rate technologist, I admit the idea of a WordPress site is anathema to my tech sensibilities. However, I do feel that I need to have some skin in the game to keep myself honest and delivering content regularly. Definitely still too shy to throw my rags of writings into my peer group, let alone the public eye. I’ll have to settle for a “laziness tax” instead.
